University of South Alabama Police are investigating a shooting at The Grove Apartments.

The call came in around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived at the complex they didn't find a victim. Not long after that, USA Spokesperson Bob Lowry said a man in his 20s suffering from a gunshot showed up at Providence Hospital.

The victim, who is not a student at the university, has been transferred to USA Medical Center for treatment. There is no word the victim's condition.

USA Police said a dark blue or black sedan was seen leaving the scene after the shots were reported. Police said the scene is currently secure and there is no ongoing threat to the campus.

After an investigation, USA Police on Friday said they determined the following:

• It appears none of the subjects involved are USA students.

• Two male subjects arrived at The Grove last night and were involved in an altercation with a third male subject. Shots were fired during the altercation.

• The third male fled the scene and has not been located or identified.

• The first two male subjects have been identified. The subject with the gunshot wound remains in USA Medical Center and the second subject has been questioned and released.

• Information on the case has been shared with the Mobile County District Attorney's Office.

The department is asking anyone with information to contact USA Police by calling 251-460-6312 or by texting 251-219-0219.  You can also call the anonymous Tip Line: 251-460-6667.
